Most of us scoop out the flesh of the pumpkin and discard the pumpkin seeds altogether. After reading this article, you would definitely think twice before throwing out the seeds, the next time you buy this spooky masterpiece from the market.
The Toasting Process
Toasted pumpkin seeds are a great snacking option as they are tasty along with being healthy. Every 84 grams of pumpkin seeds provides 5 grams pf protein, 5 grams of fibre and 5 grams of fat (1 gram saturated, 4 grams unsaturated).
Before toasting the seeds, rinse them in clear water to remove pulp and strings. Then, spread the seeds on a baking sheet that has been coated with non-sticky cooking spray or drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the seeds. Bake them at 325°F for around half an hour or until lightly toasted. Stir occasionally while cooling. Finally, season the toasted seeds with your favourite seasoning from the spice rack. Garlic powder or Cajun seasoning are great options.
